Summary

Ricardo Alex Costa Santos (born January 6, 1975 in Salvador da Bahia) is a beach volleyball player from Brazil.

Known in Brazil as “The Wall”, a 4x Olympian, and one of the Top Beach Volleyball Players the World has ever seen, Ricardo began playing beach volleyball in 1994.

He has medaled three times in the Olympics, including a Silver at the Sydney 2000 Games with Ze Marco de Melo, a Gold at the Athens 2004 Games with Emanuel Rego, and a Bronze at the London 2008 Games with Emanuel Rego. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he teamed with Pedro Cunha, but they lost in the quarter-finals.

He has been honored on his home Brazilian Pro Beach Tour as the Circuito Banco do Brasil Best Player (2006), Best Attacker (2000 and 2004) and Top Blocker (1999-2001, 2003).

Ricardo made his debut on the AVP American Tour in 2017 at the AVP Gold Series, New York City Open playing with Canadian Chaim Schalk.

That season, Ricardo received AVP’s Newcomer of the Year award. Ricardo has been a star and fan favorite on the AVP Tour ever since.

Ricardo continues his professional career to date. He credits his health and longevity to his dedication to maximizing his potential in the gym, his health, his mind, and his recovery process.
